Central System for Changing Your Name
SparkIDEA from – Tessa Lomman
My wedding was one of the most enjoyable days of my life…. Changing my name was one of the most un-enjoyable 6-9 months of my life.
First of all, your actual marriage certificate cant help you, you have to go and get a Births, Deaths and Marriages certificate. Then take this new certificate to every single place in the universe that has your details – banks, phone service providers, insurance companies, medicare, every other government register thinkable and then back to the bank because you filled out a form slightly wrong. Plus, you have to also send off your birth certificate along with a filing cabinet worth of forms, all of which must be originals.
AND, you cant just change it on one and use that as proof, you have to go through the process afresh every single time.
So, here is my idea, why can’t there just be one place you can go, yes you take all your forms and its an ordeal. But, you do it once, and then everything else changes from there.
Say its medicare, (they seem generally trusted). You go in and change your name, then all the other government services follow suit. If it isn’t possible that all the other registers i.e. banks be updated automatically (which surely in the internet age this is somehow doable), then instead of having to start the process again. You can just show them your medicare card.
Yes I get it, you could forge a medicare card, but there has to be a way around this, use an automated code that only you can sign in on or something.
A portal of some sort where you can change your name so that it changes everywhere.
They say the greatest inventions are born out of need. I’m pretty sure that there would be a lot of married women who feel like this is an area of need.
